(Abstract) Linear Algebra

The final project must be carefully typed, but diagrams may be hand-drawn.

At all times have a paper copy you can hand-in; I do NOT accept electronic versions. Print out a copy each day, so that you always have the latest version to hand-in; this, in case your printer or computer fails. (You are too old for My dog ate my homework.)

Comments about the highly-anticipated (Monday, 31Oct.) Class-C (pdf) ranged from Lots better than getting hit by a truck! to Somewhat better than getting hit by a truck!
The highly-anticipated and outrageously cheerful Class-B (pdf) entranced the cognoscenti with its clever use of rotation matrices, delighting Linear aficionados with mini-questions exploring linearly-independent sets.

Spontaneous cries of “Encore!” and “Author! Author!” were heard echoing about the hall. Critics effused over the exam's clean lines and minimalistic two-tone format. A Smash Hit!, was the consensus...
Please have posted solns to our LinA prereq. Prior to it, there was a sample test (pdf); and a sample test with induction and relation questions. You were also responsible for Math-Greek alphabet (pdf).

This demo page illustrates these linear transformations: Dilations, Rotations and Shears. It also shows the affine transformation of Translation.

We'll learn the Euclidean algorithm in the form of the Lightning bolt algorithm (LBolt).

In all of my courses, attendance is absolutely required (excepting illness and religious holidays). In the unfortunate event that you miss a class, you are responsible to get all Notes / Announcements / TheWholeNineYards from a classmate, or several. All my classes have a substantial class-participation grade.

Our LinA class has a LISTSERV archive. I will email to each student how to post-to and read-from the Archive. (The archive is at a private URL, only for the use of the folks in our class.)

Our Lina syllabus has the first homework and reading assignment. It also mentions Class photo Day.

Our main textbook is Linear Algebra (4^th edition).
