GETTING TO GAINESVILLE

By air into Gainesville:  The Gainesville Regional Airport (airport code GNV) is served by USAirways Express, Discover Air, and ASA (the Delta Connection) from the hub cities of Charlotte NC, Miami, and Atlanta, respectively.

Taxi service is usually available curbside at the Gainesville Airport. The approximate cost from the airport to the University of Florida campus or the hotels is $12$15 depending on luggage. Patrons of the Holiday Inn University Center, Radisson Hotel, and University Centre Hotel can use the hotel courtesy phones near the Baggage Claim area to call for a free shuttle to the hotel.

Jacksonville (JAX) is 85 miles northwest of Gainesville (driving time = 1.5 hours) and Orlando (MCO) is 109 miles south of Gainesville (driving time = 2.0 hours). You can rent a car at these airports or take one of the airport shuttles. If you plan to take a shuttle you must make reservations in advance. If you arrive without reservations and take a cab from one of these airports it will cost over $100 one way.

By Bus: Interstate bus transportation is offered by Greyhound Bus Lines. For fare and schedule information, call 1-800-231-2222. The local terminal is at 516 SW 4th Avenue, and the local phone number is 352-376-5252.

GETTING AROUND GAINESVILLE

The city of Gainesville is arranged in a Euclidean grid. The numbered streets run north-south and the numbered avenues run east-west. The origin of the coordinate system is at University Avenue and Main St., and so University plays the role of "zero" Ave. and Main the role of "zero" St. The quadrants of town are designated NE, NW, SW, and SE. The University of Florida is in the South West portion of the city, south of University Avenue and west of W 13th Street. The Mathematics Department is located in Little Hall which is 0.2 miles southwest from the intersection of University Avenue and W 13th Street. Here's a map of the area near the Math Dept. including the hotels. Here's the interactive version of the same map (Requires Java).

From the intersection of University Ave. and W 13th St. to the hotels:

From the intersection of University Ave. and W 13th St. to the conference; Walk two blocks south on 13th St. to SW 2nd Ave. Take a right into the University of Florida. After you pass the reception house you will be in a large parking area. To your left about 100 yards diagonally across a lot is a 3 story building with outside walkways. This is Little Hall (here's a map.) If you are driving on a week day, you need to get a temporary parking permit at the reception house.

From the airport to the intersection of University Ave. and W 13th St. The Gainesville Airport is about 6 miles from this intersection. From the airport, turn right when you exit the airport onto NE 39th Ave. As you are driving west on NE 39th Ave. the numbers of the cross streets will go down till you get to Main St. and then increase to NW 13th St. which is about 2 miles from the airport. Take a left onto NW 13th St. and about 3 miles south to University Ave.
