Topics:                            We discussed general matters of procedure, including the requirement that search committee members
                                        must be certified (see the link above). Also discussed was the manner in which application files are to
                                        be organized and presented. It was agreed that review of the application files can proceed at once,
                                        committee members communicating one with another as necessary before the next meeting of the
                                        committee as a whole.

Committee members were informed that each applicant has been contacted by letter
and by e-mail, acknowledging receipt of their application, encouraging them to
submit also electronically through GatorJobs, and inviting them to check with
Jessica Chaviano on the completeness of their application packet. Discussion
then centred on the process of reviewing the files and on the qualities expected
of a successful applicant; no individual named cases were discussed in depth at
this time.

With a view to drawing up a short list of candidates by 15 January, it was
agreed that committee members would continue to review files before, during and
after the Christmas break; it was further agreed that we would meet on Monday, 5
January and Thursday, 8 January in 368 Little Hall (in each case at 11am unless
notified otherwise).
