MAA 6617
Instructor: Paul Robinson
Class: MWF 4; LIT 203
Office: M 6, 7; W 3, 5; F 6, 7
This semester we shall begin with a rapid
account of Hilbert spaces, including their characterization(s)
among Banach spaces. After this, most of the semester will be devoted
to measure and integration; in addition to recovering the foundations,
we shall cover such topics as extensions of measures, convexity
properties, the Radon-Nikodym theorem and the Riesz representation
theorem.
Grades will be assigned on the basis of performance in
regular homework assignments.
Text: None is required; notes on measure and integral may be found here - MI. Also MON.
REVIEW SESSION: Our next review session will be held in LIT 368 next Thursday (28 April) from 1pm until 3pm.
Office hours: Thursday 5 May, 9am-noon
Tuesday 17 May, 10am-4pm
