MODERN ANALYSIS 2
MAA 5229
Instructor: Paul Robinson
Class: MWF 5; 223 Little Hall
Office: M 6, 7; W 6, 7; F 3, 6
Text: Walter Rudin, Principles of Mathematical Analysis (third
edition)
This course continues the fundamentals
of
mathematical analysis begun in MAA 5228. After completing the Riemann
integral from Chapter Six, we will work through most of Chapters Seven
and Eight (on sequences of functions and on special functions
respectively), closing with extensive coverage of Chapter Eleven (on
the Lebesgue integral).
There will be four written in-class
tests during the semester, at
three or four week intervals; grades will be based on performance in
these tests. Homework will be regularly assigned and
discussed, but will not enter into the calculation of grades.
Makeup tests will be given for the
usual documented reasons.
