MTG 6256
Instructor: Paul Robinson
Class: MWF 6; 217 Little Hall
Office: M ; W ; F
Text: Class notes
This course (along with the sequel) will cover the fundamentals of
differential
geometry, pertaining to smooth manifolds, vector fields and
differential
forms; having developed these fundamentals, the aim will be to explore
the intimate relationships between Lie groups and symplectic geometry.
This material will be prefaced by an account of differential calculus
in
normed spaces, up to the inverse and implicit function theorems.
Course grades will be assessed on the basis of
performance
in official homework assignments, which are to be completed without
consultation,
according to the honour code. In addition, students may be expected (gratis)
to prepare and present topics to the class.
