MAA 6616
Instructor: Paul Robinson
Class: MWF 4; 233 Little Hall
Office: M ; W ; F
Text: G. K. Pedersen, Analysis Now (Springer GTM 118)
This course will address abstract integration theory and the elements of
functional analysis. Regarding the adopted (virtual) text, we shall cover topics
from Chapter Two (Banach Spaces), Chapter Three (Hilbert Spaces), and Chapter
Four (Spectral Theory), along with topics from Chapter One (General Topology) as
and when necessary. This material will be supplemented by class notes on
'Measure and Integral', largely following the traditional approach (rather than
the functional-analytic one in the adopted text).
Student
performance will be assessed by the following means:
- two midterms and a final examination (each
25%)
- homework assignments (total 25%)
In addition, students will be expected
(gratis)to prepare and present topics to the class.
