Financial Support
We offer financial support for several kinds of
visitors to the UF Special Year in Logic. Below we
delineate various categories under which we expect
to offer support and the procedures which must be
followed in order to received it.
Categories of support
Workshop participants.
We expect to be able to pay local expenses for many participants.
Long-term visitors. You may consider a visit of
week, month or semester duration. Typical levels of
support will be $1000 for week visits, $2000 for month
visits, and $5000 for a semester visit.
Special opportunities. Special funds are available for
graduate students,
women, and participants from the Southeast. The
southeastern region is defined to include the
following states: Alabama, the Carolinas, Florida,
Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. At
this time it seems unlikely that we can support
graduate students coming for the whole term.
History Lecturers.
We invited several individuals to give special
lectures in the course of the year, such as
Mathematics History lectures. A typical support for
the speaker is $500, and it is understood that it will
be combined with one of the previous kinds of support.
Procedures
The steps necessary to apply for and receive financial
support are the following.
E-mail an application message to logicyear@clas.ufl.edu.
The message should contain: your name and affiliation,
the time and focus of your visit, and in the case of
graduate students we must receive a brief
recommendation letter, typically from your advisor. If
you are a major invited speaker as in the item (1)
above, you can skip this step.
Once you are approved for support, download the
Visitor Information Form
(pdf),
fill it out and send it immediately
to our secretary (see below).
The Visitor Information Form should reach Margaret
a minimum of 10 days before your arrival; she cannot
pre-authorize reimbursement (required prior to your arrival),
book a room for you or arrange for a car rental until
she has put you in the university reimbursement system
using the information from this form. You can only be reimbursed
for up to the amount pre-authorized.

fax: (352) 392-8357
Receipts are required for reimbursement for all items
except (1) meals, (2) direct billed loding, (3) direct billed car rental.
Make sure Margaret gets your receipts and is kept
informed about your expenses.
If your support includes lodging and
you would like to stay at one of the conference hotels that offer
direct billing (Holiday Inn- across from campus, Reitz Union or Rush
Lake Motel) please contact Margaret Somers (margaret@math.ufl.edu) with
the name of the hotel and the dates of your stay so that she can
make the reservation and arrange for the bill to be sent directly
to the Department of Mathematics. The Logic Year Organizing Committee
recommends the hotels that offer direct billing; refer to the
lodging information section
for more information about these and other hotels.
To have your support include car rental, Margaret must
issue and mail an ACTO to you.
The State of Florida will only reimburse for a compact car
and will not cover the additional insurance. To issue
an ACTO requires a minimum of one week after Margaret
receives the following information: name, address,
pickup site, date of pickup, return site, return date.
The time for you to receive it after it has been mailed
depends on your location, but the whole process typically
takes a minimum of two weeks.
After you arrive, you must stop by Margaret's
office (Little Hall 358) to sign the necessary expense
form. If you want to be reimbursed on the spot, you
must be ready to surrender the originals of your
receipts at that time. Otherwise, you send Margaret
your receipts after your return and she will send you
the reimbursement check.
Please follow the above procedure carefully. The
Special Year will stretch our secretary resources to
the breaking point, and without your cooperation we
will be lost.
