Graham Picklesimer

I am a Ph.D student working under the supervision of Professor James Brooks. Broadly, my research interests are in Functional Analysis, Measure Theory, and Probability. At present I am working on integration in a finitely additive measure space, and on representing the weak integral of B.J. Pettis and extending results by Pettis and Brooks to this case. A main feature of the work is the development of new techniques for handling the integral in this much more restricted setting.

My other academic interests include the fields of Stochastic Processes, Regression Analysis, Game Theory, and Behavioral Economics. I am also interested in the increased policy focus on and attempts at reforming the secondary mathematics curriculum. In particular, I'd like to learn the answer to the question "why do so many students 'hate' math?" Experience and anecdotal evidence suggest that students find mathematics difficult, boring, and irrelevant. However, there is presently almost no robust empirical support for any answer.
