TITLE: Ramanujan's Congruences for the partition function and some questions
       of Serre on the Fourier coefficients of modular forms


ABSTRACT OF TALK:

In this talk I will describe some recent work regarding the behavior
of coefficients of modular forms. In particular, I will describe 
new results on the distribution of the partition function modulo
primes $M>3$, and I will announce solutions to some longstanding questions
of Serre on the paucity of zero coefficients for generic modular forms.
