Sergei Shabanov.
You can find a PDF copy of it here.
Recommended Text: Calculus
Early Transcendentals by Stewart, 6th edition
Prerequisite:
A working knowledge of MAC 2311 and 2312 will be assumed.
Course description:
MAC 2313 is the third course in
the three semester sequence MAC 2311, MAC 2312 and MAC 2313 covering basic
calculus. We will be covering chapters 12 through 16 from the text.
Attendance Policy :
Registration in this course
obligates the student to be regular and punctual in class attendance. A student
absent from class bears full
responsibility for subject material and announcements missed.
Academic Honesty :
Please see the student handbook
for a statement of the University's policy. Your work should be your own.
Students with Disabilities:
Students requesting classroom
accommodation must first register with the Dean of Students Office. The Dean of
Students Office will provide documentation to the student which must be given
to me.
Grade Policy :
When you receive any graded
material, you have only one week to discuss the grade received with me during
office hours. After that week the grades are final. Grades can only be
discussed during office hours.
Grades Breakdown :
Points will be earned through
quizzes, exams and the final. Namely:
a) 5
quizzes (out of 7) each worth 10 points.
b) 3 Exams and the cumulative
Final Exam each worth 50 points.
The total points available are
5*10+4*50= 250
Letter Grades :
In order to calculate your
letter grade you must sum up all the points you have following the previous
list. The letter grades are assigned according to the following table, with the
lowest percent to the right of the letter grade:
|
A |
90% |

Due to opportunities
for bonus points, you will be assigned the grade on the per-cent you earn. Even
if you are 0.5 point away from the next grade up, you will receive the grade
you earned.
Keeping score:
I will be keeping track of grades on Sakai, however it is your responsibility to obtain your graded
exams and quizzes. They will be returned to you in a timely manner. If you want
to argue an exam or quiz, you must do so within one week of the date it is
returned to you. However, the entirety will be re-graded - if there is some
leniency shown in some problems, you may end up with a score lower than what
you started with, so be sure you look through everything first! Due to
University policy, we are not allowed to e-mail any grades, so please don't
e-mail me asking for grades. You must pick up your quizzes and exams in class
or office hours and grades must be discussed in person and only during office
hours.
Quizzes, Exams, Final :
a) The quiz will be given on Friday in the last 20 minutes of class. It is
going to cover the material of the previous week. There will be 7 quizzes all
together. The best 5 out of those 7 will count.
b) There
are going to be 4 exams (including the final) throughout the semester. Please
see the calendar for Exams and quizzes dates.
The Final Exam will be on Thursday May 3rd
from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.
Make Up Policy :
Every student is allowed to
drop 2 quizzes, so there will be NO MAKE
UP for missed quizzes.
Exams cannot be made up,
unless the student has a serious reason to miss the Exam (e.g. due to illness, participation in
official UF athletic events).
The
student MUST provide a legitimate
documented reason for missing an Exam. This must be done in advance, unless
there is a medical
emergency, and in this case, the student must provide the legitimate written documentation to me no more than a week after the missed Exam.
The students will NOT be allowed to take Exams or quizzes earlier than the scheduled
time.
Office hours: I will hold 3 office hours per
week. The purpose is to cover difficult problems or clarify concepts covered in
class. They are not for re-teaching the material due to absence. Please utilize
my office hours efficiently or make an appointment if you can’t meet during office
hours.
