The combined-degree program allows superior students to pursue an accelerated program in mathematics leading to a both a bachelor's and a master's degree in five years instead of the usual six. Students in this program may count up to 12 semester hours of approved graduate-level mathematics courses dually as credit towards both the undergraduate and graduate degrees. Typically, for a master's degree in mathematics, students in this program would follow the sample 2005-and-later Bachelor of Science schedule for their first three years, and in their fourth year take MAA 5228-9 (Modern Analysis 1-2, the graduate-numbered companions of MAA 4226-7) and MAS 5311-2 (Algebra 1-2). MAA 5228-9 and MAS 5311-2 are required courses for the master's degree in mathematics.General information about this program, including admission requirements, is available on the University's combined-degree website. Students considering this program should consult, in person, with an academic advisor in the Mathematics Department; please do not telephone or email the Undergraduate Coordinator for information.
