Title: Computations of Fluid Flow and Flexible Structure Interactions Wei Shyy Mech. & Aero. Dept. University of Florida wss@mae.ufl.edu Abstract: The non-linear fluid-structure interaction problem consists of multiple time and length scales. Furthermore, the shape and movement of the fluid-solid interface needs to be updated as part of solution, resulting in a moving boundary problem. The moving grid technique has been developed along with Navier-Stokes equations for the fluid model, with either a nonlinear membrane wing model, or a linear, stiff wing structure. Suitable interfacing techniques are incorporated to couple and synchronize the flow and structure solvers. We present unsteady computations to highlight the computational characteristics.
