Title: Multiscale Computational Solid Mechanics Jacob Fish Civil, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Troy, NY 12180, USA email: fishj@rpi.edu http://www.rpi.edu/~fishj Abstract: The talk will describe various information passing and concurrent multiscale computational techniques in solid mechanics. In the concurrent approaches both the fine and coarse scales are simultaneously resolved, whereas in the information passing multiscale methods, fine scales are modeled and their gross response is infused into the coarse scale. Among various information passing approaches a unified continuum-to-continuum and continuum-to-discrete (atomistic) scale bridging methodology based on the generalization of the space-time mathematical homogenization will be presented. Application of the space-time homogenization theory to problems of viscoplasticity and fatigue will be described.
