Carl Jaffe Abstract: In this paper we present an algorithm for evolving an active contour to get a MAP estimate of the blood-tissue boundary in short-axis cardiac ultrasound. The classical active contour evolution strategy, which is gradient descent, gets stuck in local maxima of the MAP objective function. We propose an alternate evolution strategy that can escape from spurious local minima. Segmentation results with the new strategy will be presented
