Qingguo was our former SIAM Gator President. He made a big contribution to the continuing development of our local chapter of SIAM. Because of his great effort in promoting the SIAM Gator T-shirts, our chapter was mentioned in an article by James Crowley, Executive Director of SIAM in the October 2006 issue of SIAM News.

"In the October issue of SIAM News, there are 3 pictures in connection with UF's participation in the SIAM annual meeting in Boston in July...On page 2, we are pictured within an article by James Crowley, Executive Director of SIAM. The article entitled "A propitious time for applied mathematics" is in a section called "Talk of the Society" and our picture has the caption: "The student chapter of the University of Florida (the SIAM Gators, founded in 2002) has been a steady source of creative ideas (one of which is well visualized on page 7)..." --- (composed by Dr. Hager)
