Title:
How Combinatorics is Saving the World Part IV: Generating
Functions - Making Analysis Relevant
Abstract:
In Part Four of our three part series, we will explore the
realm of the generatingfunctionologist. Not only does
generatingfunctionology finally grant significance to the fields
of real and complex analysis, operator theory, functional analysis,
probability theory, etc., but its elegance and beauty are matched
only by its power to discern some of the deepest truths of
enumerative and asymptotic combinatorics through the manipulation
of polynomials and power series. We will review the major
trends in modern generatingfunctionology and glimpse new
techniques and some applications to the natural sciences.
The pizza and drinks will be provided after the talk.
