Title:  Mathematical Models of Surgical Threads

Abstract:  I'll give a brief introduction into mathematical
models needed for developing surgical simulators which
are to be used as a part of surgical training (to reduce
significant costs and risks of the hospital training).
One of the key elements of any such simulators is a mathematical
model of dynamics of surgical threads used in suturing.
I'll give a detailed description of the thread modeling problem
involved in the current surgical simulator project initiated by
the UF surgery department.

I'm looking for a graduate student who is interested to do
a PhD research project in this area. I have a graduate student
funding of $20K for the coming academic year. The talk is
a good opportunity for graduate students to find out in detail
what this project is about.
