Abstract: In this talk, I will begin with a short outline of the idea of optimal
grids followed by a presentation of the convergence analysis for them on a
semi-infinite spatial interval. In particular, I will describe the results
from "Optimal Finite Difference Grids and Rational Approximation of the
Square Root: I. Elliptic Problems" - D. Ingerman, V. Druskin, and L.
Knizhnerman. I will then go on to present some of the recent numerical
work that I have done towards analyzing convergence on finite spatial intervals.
