Title: Optimal Grids: An Introduction

Abstract: In this talk I will present an introduction to the optimal grid techniques. We will see how the grid steps are generated and then applied to several problems, in particular to geophysical applications. I will also show some pictures exhibiting the exponential convergence at prescribed receiver points. Time permitting, I will present my recent work towards building a finite element method which yields the same discrete solution as the corresponding finite difference scheme build on these optimal grids.
