Abstract

Public speaking is a fundamental skill required for a career in mathematics.
A talk can make or break you.  The purpose of this discussion is to point out
important ingredients for giving a talk at a mathematics conference or job
interview.  I begin by recounting the 10 worst public disasters I have seen
during the 35 years I have been attending these events.  The goal is to
point out common mistakes and indicate how you can take positive steps to
avoid them.
