Talks and Posters
The Second SIAM Gator Student Conference looks for abstracts/proposals of talks in the three main categories, viz., Computational Methods/Optimization, Modeling in Biomathematics and Medical Imaging/Signal processing, and abstracts/proposals of posters in any interesting Applied Mathematics topic. Presentations are expected to contain considerable research done by the students.
Each of the applicants for talks and poster presentations need to submit an abstract not exceeding 200 words by January 13th, 2009. Please download the form here (PDF , DOC) and email the completed version to Swati at swati@math.ufl.edu. The decision solely relies on the judgment of the Advisory Committee. The invited participants will be contacted by email by January 15th, 2009.
There will be 7 student-talks (5 invited and 2 from UF) and 2 faculty-talks (1 invited and 1 from UF) in each category. The student-talks are of 20 minutes followed by 5-minutes of question/answer session whereas the faculty-talks are of 45-minute followed by question/answer session of 5 minutes.
The poster session will be held on the second day of the conference i.e. March 4th, 6:30pm onwards, during the Grand Reception dinner. The presenters are expected to stay by their poster for about 2 hours. Students are invited to participate in this session with research based on any interesting themes in Applied Mathematics. Our grant allows us to support of 5 invited poster participants from outside of University of Florida. The poster format should follow the use of non-electronic visual aids for mounting on a 22” X 28” poster board.
