2012 SASTRA RAMANUJAN PRIZECall for NominationsThe Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology, Research Academy (SASTRA), based in the state of Tamil Nadu in South India, has instituted the SASTRA Ramanujan Prize of $10,000 to be given annually to a mathematician not exceeding the age of 32 for outstanding contributions in an area of mathematics influenced by the late Indian mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan. The age limit has been set at 32 because Ramanujan achieved so much in his brief life of 32 years. The prize will be awarded each year at an international conference conducted by SASTRA in Kumbakonam, Ramanujan's hometown, around Ramanujan's birthday, December 22. The First SASTRA Ramanujan Prizes were awarded on Dec 20, 2005. Nominations are now sought for the 2012 SASTRA Ramanujan Prize. The winner will be invited to give a talk at the International Conference on the Legacy of Srinivasa Ramanujan at SASTRA University, Kumbakonam during Dec 14-16, 2012. The prize will be given during the 125th birth anniversary celebrations in India during December, 2012. Nominations for the 2012 SASTRA Ramanujan Prize must be made by June 30, 2012. A panel of experts will select the winner from the nominations. The announcement of the winner is expected around August 15.
