We are trying out an enhancement which should simplify email
submission of addresses and corrections to the list maintainers. If
you don't receive email confirmation from one of us, please resend
your message to one of the list maintainers in the usual way. You
must have a Web browser that supports HTML forms in order to use the
next item. If you do not see text editing areas below then your
browser does not support forms.
Enter your message in the areas provided below. Be sure to
fill out all of the fields and please, please specify your preferred
versions of your name and email
address in the message body since return addresses can be hard to decipher.
This menu offers searchable Web and WAIS access to the list of email
addresses in geometry and topology maintained by Andrew Nicas and others.
Other methods of obtaining the address book and a list of maintainers
appear below.
Your WWW client program (lynx, mosaic, etc.) must understand WAIS
(Wide Area Information Servers) protocols to use the WAIS search
mechanism in the menu above. If you are having trouble with this
feature then you might need a software upgrade or recompilation.
(Many of these clients, such as lynx and mosaic, need to have an
option for WAIS searches set at compile time.) Try the ``simple
search,'' which is based on the Unix grep utility, if you can't get
the WAIS search to work.
The WAIS server in the menu above is capable of crude Boolean
searches and has some other features. For more information, see the
menu item below.
Enhanced searches
The address book and a number of other files
are available for anonymous ftp at
ftp.math.ufl.edu and a mail server for the address
book is at majordomo@math.ufl.edu.
(To obtain the current version of the address book by electronic
mail, send email to majordomo@math.ufl.edu
with this text in the body of the message:
get geotop abook
The subject line of the message may be left blank.)
The list maintainers are sometimes asked for advice about mass mailings
to the people listed in the address book. We don't run a mail reflector
for these addresses ourselves, but it is not hard to strip the addresses
out of the file and set up a mass mailing, at least with Unix-style
text tools. We can offer a file of
basic advice
on this mailing chore (you can also find it through the mail server or
FTP server listed above).
