Welcome to the ``tip of the week'', a pithy kickshaw provided on a sometimes weekly basis. ------------------------------------------------------- The Spring Semester of 1996 brings some big changes to the Math Department as we move more of our facilities into Little Hall. These changes are accompanied by disturbances and adjustments in the department's computer system. Please bear with us during the first few weeks of the semester. Problems with the Mathematics Department computer system are best reported by electronic mail to consult@math.ufl.edu. ------------------------------------------------------- New users are urged to read through the ``Sun Starter'' document available in the computing laboratory at 425 Little (look for the black document rack on the wall near the door and printer). This brief tutorial discusses (1) logging in to the workstations, (2) using the window system and mouse, (3) printing documents, (4) Matlab and Maple, (5) a few Unix commands, and (6) logging off. Feel free to take a copy of the ``Sun Starter'' and to make your own notes on it. An online version of the document is available through the Documentation/Online Help item under the window system's main menu. Past Tips of the Week are found in /depot/documentation/tips. They may also be consulted through the Documentation/Online Help menu item of the window system's main menu or through Info mode in the Emacs editor. cws@math.ufl.edu Subject: getting started
