The department is represented on the university's Graduate Student Council by Joe Cooper. The Graduate Math Association is a group run by graduate students for graduate students. Its activities include a mentoring program for incoming students, barbeque picnics for the department at Lake Wauberg, and occasional seminars. It also elects a graduate student representative to the Mathematics Department Graduate Committee. The Noetherian Ring is a group of friends of women in mathematics that holds meetings monthly. Each fall, continuing math graduate students run a Computer Workshop for incoming math graduate students covering basic Unix commands, email systems, and stepping onto the World Wide Web. Recently a local SIAM Student Chapter has been formed.
