How to Apply
For a general overview of the UF admissions process, you might
want to visit first the UF Graduate Schools page on
Applying for Admission (on this page
there is a How the Application Process Works section).
The admissions office page for
prospective graduate
students provides additional practical information about
applying for admission.
The university encourages electronic applications. However,
if you encounter a difficulty with
the online application process or are
otherwise unable to apply electronically,
you may also apply by mail.
International applicants may want to view the page
Additional Information for International Applicants.
A completed application consists of
- An application form, preferable electronic;
- Official transcripts of all University level work sent directly to
the office of admissions;
- For international students, official transcripts and degree certificates
in both the original language and English translation sent directly to
the office of admissions. Thus,
an international student with both an BS and MS will need to send
eight documents; failure to send all of these documents could delay your application.
- Three letters of recommendation. We prefer these to be submitted electronically,
using the Admissions Office web interface. Details can be found when submitting
you electronic application.
Letters may also be sent directly to the department of mathematics at the address
below either as a letter or using the forms (see below), or by email to
math-gradapps@ufl.edu.
At least two letters should come from instructors
who can speak to your work in rigorous proof based mathematics courses;
- Test scores: Beginning with applications for Fall 2012 entry we shall require
the GRE Mathematics Subject Test in addition to the General Test. Also, most international
applicants will need to take TOEFL. The scores of all tests should be sent directly
from ETS to the Office of Admissions. The ETS code for the University of Florida is 5812.
In addition, please send directly to the mathematics department copies of all transcripts and, if required, degree certificates - these need not be
official and xerox or .pdf is fine. These documents could also be emailed to
the mathematics department to math-gradapps@ufl.edu.

have the following materials at hand to assist you with the application.
- Copies of your transcripts from all colleges/universities you attended.
- Dates you have taken or plan to take standardized tests such as the GRE and TOEFL.
- If Florida residency is being claimed (for tuition purposes), you will need the
voter registration, driver license and vehicle registration of the person
claiming Florida residency. Non-U.S. citizens will need their resident alien numbers.
Be sure to use the navigation buttons on the electronic application forms.
They insure your information is stored in the database. The "forward" and "back"
