Applicant Profile
Most of our successful international applicants have a Bachelors degree in mathematics or equivalent, including year long sequences in abstract algebra and modern analysis. They also have GRE general test score of 1200 (Verbal plus Quantitative) or better. The average GRE general test score for those indicating mathematical sciences as an intended field is roughly 500 Verbal and 700 Quantitative.

The University does not three year bachelors degrees as equivalent to a four year degree at a US institution. They do however accept a three year bachelors degree plus at least one additional year in a masters program as equivalent.

Additional Exams
In addition to the other application materials, most international students are required by University rules to submit a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score. The minimum is 550 on the paper version, 213 on the computer based exam, and 80 on the internet version (iBT). Graduate applicants from countries on the list are not required to submit TOEFL scores.

International students, even from countries that are TOEFL exempt, must receive a qualifying score on the University of Florida administered SPEAK test. A score of 23 or better on the speaking portion of the iBT is expected to produce such a qualifying score. Consequently, since the department can support only a very limited number of graduate students who are not eligible for a teaching assignment, your chances of receiving support from the department are much better with a score of 23 or better on the speaking portion of the iBT.

See here for more on SPEAK requirements at UF.
