Our Constitution

  1. Purpose
    The purpose of the GMA shall be to oversee the planning and execution of graduate student activities in the department of mathematics. Theses activities include but are not limited to: The Graduate Student Seminar, The Noetherian Ring Seminar, the Fall and Spring departmental picnics, the Mentoring Program for graduate students entering the department, the election of the representative of the Math department to the Graduate Student Council, and the election of the graduate student member of the graduate Committee of the Department of Mathematics.
  2. Membership
    All graduate students in the Department shall be members of the GMA. Faculty, staff, and student spouses may be associate (non-voting) members.
  3. Non-Discrimination Statement
    The GMA will not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, sex, age, national origin, or disability.
  4. Meetings
    The GMA shall have a minimum of one meeting per semester. Officers may authorize more frequent meetings as needed.

    There are no dues for the GMA.

  8. Amendment
    Proposed amendments to this constitution may be drafted by any member or officer of the GMA. Proposed amendments shall be announced at least one week prior to the meeting of the membership at which they are to be voted on. Amendments must be discussed at the meeting and may only be passed by a 2/3 majority of the membership at a meeting where a quorum is present.
