National Academy Member George Andrews
as
Distinguished Visiting Professor

  ANDREWS PIC

Starting Spring 2006, Evan Pugh Professor George Andrews of The Pennsylvania State University will be a Distinguished Visiting Professor in the Department of Mathematics each year in the Spring term for two months.

Professor Andrews, who is the world's greatest authority in the theory of partitions and the work of Ramanujan, has had a long association with our department. He has strong research collaboration with our number theory group, and has visited the University of Florida many times over the past decade to give featured colloquium and seminar talks as well as plenary talks at conferences in Gainesville.

In view of his eminence and his association with our department, the University of Florida awarded him an Honorary Doctorate in December 2002.

Professor Andrews was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2003. In this connection a biography of Professor Andrews has appeared in the Proceedings of the National Academy, in which his ties to our university and department are mentioned.

We are immensely pleased that he will be a Distinguished Visiting Professor each Spring Term.
