CLAS DISTINGUISHED SCHOLAR AWARD TO
PROFESSOR JOHN THOMPSON

On April 30, 2005, during the CLAS Commencement, Graduate Research Professor John Thompson was honored with the title of CLAS Distinguished Scholar and was the first recipient of this newly created award. This was in recognition of his many significant contributions to mathematics in general and in appreciation of his role in enhancing the reputation of the mathematics department and bringing international visibility to the department, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the University of Florida.
