If your major requires precalculus, your high school background was strong and included both algebra and trigonometry, then take MAC 1147 Precalculus. A grade of C or better in this brisk paced review satisfies the prerequisites for calculus. However, a grade of B or better is recommended for success in calculus. If your mathematics background is weaker than described above but your degree program requires precalculus, then take MAC 1140 Precalculus Algebra, and possibly MAC 1114 College Trigonometry, if your major requires it. If you wish to continue to calculus, you must then take the SAT II Math II-C placement test and achieve a score of 540 or higher for MAC 2311 and a score of 520 or higher for MAC 2233. If your major does not require calculus, precalculus or algebra, then consider MGF 1106 Mathematics for Liberal Arts I or MGF 1107 Mathematics for Liberal Arts II. These courses are independent, and one may be taken without the other, or both in either order. Please report problems to: www@math.ufl.edu |
