Further topics in linear algebra. (MR)

Content:

MAS 4107 is a 3 credit course on linear algebra that extends the discussion started in MAS 4105. The topics are chosen by the instructor. A recent sample included diagonalization, the Cayley-Hamilton Theorem, inner product spaces, self-adjoint operators, quadratic forms, canonical forms, and applications.

The student is expected to reason through and coherently write up proofs of theorems as well as develop computational skills. Numerical aspects are covered in MAS 4124 Introduction to Numerical Linear Algebra.

This course is designed to serve majors in mathematics and those engineering and science students interested in the theorectical aspects of the subject.

Textbook:

Linear Algebra, third edition, by Friedberg, Insel, Spence.
