MAC 1147
Precalculus: Algebra and Trigonometry

Credits: 4

Prerequisites:

None.

Catalog Description:

College algebra, functions, coordinates geometry, exponential and logarithmic functions, and trigonometry. This fast-paced course is designed as a review of algebra and trigonometry to prepare the student for calculus. This course assumes prior knowledge of intermediate algebra (Algebra II) and trigonometry. (M) (MR) (See note)

Content:

MAC 1147 is a fast-paced review of algebra and trigonometry designed to prepare students for university-level courses using mathematics. In particular, a grade of C or better in MAC 1147 satisfies the prerequisites for MAC 2311 (Analytic Geometry and Calculus 1) and for MAC 2233 (Survey of Calculus 1).

Students who desire a slower pace may take MAC 1140 and MAC 1114.

Note: Students who satisfactorily complete (C or better) MAC 1140 or MAC 1114 may not receive credit for MAC 1147. Conversely, students who satisfactorily complete (C or better) MAC 1147 may not receive credit for either MAC 1140 or MAC 1114.

Students intending to satisfy general education and Gordon Rule requirements in mathematics, but who are not especially interested in college-level algebra and do not need or want precalculus or calculus, generally should choose their math and math-related courses from the following list, rather taking than MAC 1147 or MAC 1140.
